...I attended Iowa State University and was enrolled in the Graphic Design program. This was my major for three years before I switched to a different major. Although I believe my college classes are invaluable, I would still consider myself self-taught. I have been working at being an artist for close to 17 years now. I have experimented with different mediums, subject matters and being that I am self-published have made the efforts to learn about marketing and the business end of being an artist. I am a versatile, prolific Iowa born and raised artist. I work with the mediums of acrylics, alkyds, watercolor and a mixed media of watercolor and colored pencil. My subject matter ranges from snowmen to horses and cattle to fruit and landscapes. All of my art is inspired by the connection I have to Iowa and the serene beauty that I see around me..

"True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist." Albert Einstein. This blog represents a promise I've made to myself; a promise to stop suppressing that irresistable urge. For too many years, I put art on the bottom of the priority list. I'm now fully committed to creating art, at least once a week... more if I can find the time. I'll post a new original painting in either pastel or oil weekly. All artwork on this site are for your viewing pleasure.

This is the pastoral scene I drive by every day on my way to the studio. The cows in this field must be milk cows or pets because they have been here for quite awhile and seem very content in their "Cow Paradise".

Julioc says: "Marc is a hell of a photographer... his landscape's shots are real digital masterpieces, extremely well composed and full of that "je ne sais pas" that I can't describe entirely. Mmarsupilami's makes the world a bigger place :-)"

Laura Von Rosk's paintings depict an experience of a landscape. Memories or impressions are refined: a sand ditch along the highway, a gravel pit, a cultivated field, or just a peculiar bend in the road. "There is a tension between form and what's going on in the real world. And the form (dips, ditches, open fields, etc.) isn't just a product of what I see, but combines what I know about constructing paintings with some deep and as yet unconscious memory system with what I see in the landscape. There may be a story hidden in the painting, which I myself am still only vaguely aware of."
LAURA VON ROSK

Round Mountain

Severance Hill, oil on wood
All your life,
they tell you
what to do
and not do
and expect
you to follow
the rules.
All your life,
they tell you
what to feel
and not
to feel
and expect
you to feel
like they do.
All your life,
they push you
and get under
your tender skin,
but really,
they have not
a clue,
cause you are in
looking out
and they are out
looking in.
thank you my friend Burleigh

On the Romance of Travel, mixed media panel
All For You
For you I would climb
The highest mountain peak
Swim the deepest ocean
Your love I do seek.
For you I would cross
The rivers most wide
Walk the hottest desert sand
To have you by my side.
For you are the one
Who makes me whole
You've captured my heart
And touched my soul.
For you are the one
That stepped out of my dreams
Gave me new hope
Showed me what love means.
For you alone
Are my reason to live
For the compassion you show
And the care that you give.
You came into my life
And made me complete
Each time I see you
My heart skips a beat.
For you define beauty
In both body and mind
Your soft, gentle face
More beauty I'll ne'er find.
For you are the one
God sent from above
The angel I needed
For whom I do love

I work in watercolour and acrylics. My main interest is in landscape drawing and painting but flights of pure imagination have their place in my painting as well. I've divided up my work for convenience into Acrylics, Watercolours and Panels. "The Panels" is how I describe the more whimsical pieces. To have a look just click on Gallery (to your left in blue) and then select one of the three types of paintings.

Erik arranges his colors like electrons traveling undefined paths. His collisions bring line and shape around to the surface to skate across his multi fields of shaded pigment. He's a colored alchemist, turning one thing into another.

"My paintings are narratives, even when the story isn't evident. A history of assigning importance and meaning to bits of color and texture, light and shadow, fill each image with underlying meaning. Symbols discovered in ancient lands are resurrected and combined with technology to produce something fresh that is anchored in the past."r />
